Working student - AI/ML

IntelliLung is an AI-based system designed to optimize lung support for patients in intensive care units requiring mechanical ventilation. This project is a collaborative effort involving partners from Germany, Spain, Serbia, Italy, and the USA, and is led by experts from the Technical University of Dresden.

We are seeking motivated students to help develop life-saving algorithms for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). As part of the IntelliLung project, you will join an international team of AI researchers, data engineers, and clinicians to develop and validate algorithms that guide the treatment of mechanically ventilated patients. Your work will help reduce the risk of injury and mortality while also automating processes to lessen the workload on doctors. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a pioneering project with the potential to significantly improve patient outcomes in critical care settings.

What awaits you?

As part of IntelliLung, you have the opportunity to apply your AI and ML expertise to potentially save lives by developing cutting-edge solutions in the field of healthcare. Your role will involve:

  • Researching, building, and applying machine learning (ML) and reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms to guide patient treatment.
  • Ensuring datasets are AI-ready by cleaning, preprocessing, and structuring data for ML/RL.
  • Creating ML pipelines to streamline the experimentation and evaluation processes, enhancing efficiency and reproducibility.
  • Exploring critical topics such as modeling, uncertainty quantification, explainability, and validation, while also having the freedom to pursue your own innovative ideas.
Qualifikationen / Anforderungen

Who are you?

  • You are currently enrolled in a German university, pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Understanding of machine learning, particularly reinforcement learning, demonstrated through previous experience.
  • Good programming skills in Python and familiarity with PostgreSQL, pandas, PyTorch, wandb, matplotlib etc
  • Knowledge of large language models (LLMs) is a plus.
  • Business-fluent in English.
