Student assistant for e-VITA
The student will join a EU/JP project for healthy living for the ageing population. The project focuses on the development of a virtual coach, embodied in a number of devices and robots, for improving the well-being of older adults (https://www.e-vita.coach/). The project runs until December 2023.
The student will assist in the implementation of the dialogue system in RASA.
Required expertise:
- Basic NLP
- Python libraries (numpy, pandas, scipy)
- ML/DL libraries (pytorch, tensorflow)
- Desired (but not required): understanding of chatbots i.e. as implemented in RASA
Two Student Assistant Vacancies
We are looking for motivated students (preferably in their early stage of masters) as soon as possible to be involved in the application of Reinforcement Learning methods to develop and validate a Decision Support System for guiding the treatment of mechanically ventilated patients in intensive care units.
Responsibilities and tasks: You will be a member of a collaborative project team working at the cutting edge of Computer Science within the IntelliLung European Union Research Project. Reporting directly to Dr. Vahdati and Mr. Li, you will be contributing to the data preparation as well as the development of the algorithms for the comparison and approximation of the decision support system which is based on Reinforcement Learning. The candidate should be fluent in English.
Technical Requirements:
- Reinforcement Learning (Offline and Online
- Deep Q-Learning, Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG)
- Continues and Discrete Data Analysis,
- Data Cleaning and preprocessing
- Data Visualization and Data Management
- Processing Medical Data
Programming languages:

- Scala, R (not mandatory)

Python Developer
The Institute for Applied Informatics e.V. at the University of Leipzig (InfAI) has a vacancy for a student/scientific assistant (SHK/WHK) with a maximum of 19 h / week as part of a third-party funded project.
The Service and Knowledge Management team is looking for support as soon as possible. We are a committed and interdisciplinary team with flat hierarchies and work on a wide range of topics within the framework of varied research projects. Thematically, everything revolves around the use of digital tools and AI technologies in companies.
Your tasks
Implementation of prototypical development work in practice-oriented research projects
Support development activities in research projects at the InfAI
Documentation and code reviews via Git
What you bring with you
practical experience in Python development (incl. PEP 8)
ideally experience with Tornado
basic knowledge in web development (HTML, JSON, etc.)
Knowledge of machine learning
Confidence in working with Git
Self-initiative as well as independent and self-reliant way of working

Working student in the field of testing
Your tasks:
Creation and maintenance of module and integration tests on system level as well as
documentation of the functionality.
What you bring with you:
You are a student in the field of computer science or similar.
You have (initial) knowledge of Python and scripting languages such as bash.
You know the Linux operating system like the back of your hand.
Terms like PCIe, DMA/IOMMU, Ethernet and FIFO make you sit up and take notice with interest.
